I've explored a variety of themes over decades of painting women, gender identity, gender roles, domestic expectations, celebration, influence, oppression and strength. In the latest series that I’ve been working on for about a year and a half, I’m considering them through a supernatural lens; women that transcend agencies of stereotypes and roles of motherhood or sexual being; subverting expectations to include mysticism, spirituality, and the ethereal. There’s an occult aesthetic pushing viewers to see beyond the confines of corporeality and deal more intimately with the complex enigma of these otherworldly personas, women as gods. The figures commingle artifacts of religious phenomena, and transcendental architecture, creating a space between reality and magic.
